NOTE: All of these bills say "facsimile" on the front. I found these in an envelope in some stuff I got in an auction. The front of the envelope says "Confederate States Paper Money, Set Contains 9 Bills: 50 cents - $1 - $2 - $5 - $10 - $20 - $50 - $100 and $500. A Facsimile Printing of the Seventh Issue of February 17, 1984". The back of the envelope has a detailed description of each bill, as well as some history of Confederate money, including the fact that some of the notes from the First Issue were actually printed in the North by the National Bank Note Company of New York. It also says that due to inflation, in May of 1864 butter cost $15 per pound in Confederate money. According to the envelope, the $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills were originally printed with fancy blue engraved backs, which the copies do as well (see photo of 3 of the backs). The 50 cent, $1, $2 and $500 had plain backs, which the copies do as well. Also in the envelope were 7 bills of what I assume are Union money, and a copy of a photo of a Union Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon, who according to the back of the photo had the dubious honor of being the first Union general killed in action during the Civil War. The bank notes which I assume are Union are as follows: $1 State of Illinois Internal Improvement Office $1 The Bank of Montgomery County Pennsylvania
