For Auction Nice Connecticut New Haven Greys Veteran`s Sword. Refer Ames book page 227. Gilt brass ornate hilt similar to a medical officer`s sword but has entwined NHGV on front of guard,spread winged eagle on front of pommel, leather grip intact missing the wire, fine 4 sided 29 " blade with etched floral panel both sides,also etched Ames Sword Co. on ricasso. Hilt is very tight,blade has No nicks-pitts-bends-rust. Nice solid leather scabbard with 2 lg.brass fittings,ornate frog stud. This regiment was also known as the 2nd Connecticut Infantry and saw action in the 1st major engagement of the Civil War,The battle of Bull Run and 19 other battles. T are several monuments at Gettysburg honoring these men and their heroic deeds. I`d call this a historic piece of Civil War History. T is much more info on the web about this regiment.
