A Connecticut Late Federal Cherrywood and Tiger Maple Tall Case Clock

c. 1810, the painted dial signed "R. Whiting, Winchester" and with gilt highlighted flowers and urn, having a broken arch bonnet top, wooden works, the case with rope-turned quarter columns, scalloped door, cove molded waist, the base lacking feet, found in "estate" condition, height 84 1/4 in., width 20 1/2 in., depth 10 1/2 in. Note: Riley Whiting partnered with his brothers-in-law Samuel and Luther Hoadley, working in both Winchester and Winstead, Connecticut. They manufactured clocks from 1807 until Whiting's death in 1835. In the 1820 Census of Manufacturers for Winchester, Litchfield County, CT, Whiting's shop is cited as having made 3,000 clocks.
