DESCRIPTION: Excellent German Conta Boehme porcelain Tobacco Humidor Jar or Very Large Trinket Box. This is listed in both of the Vogel's Books. In Victorian Trinket Boxes , on page 88 and in Conta Boehme Porcelain on page 269. It shows a baby sitting inside a two-handled wicker basket holding a horn and beside her sits a jester doll. This is the largest size that Conta Boehme made. Measurements are 6-1/2 inches tall, 5-1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide. The numbers showing are 456, II and 13. Even though those numbers are for the 5" Basket, this one is the largest that C&B makes. The 13 is probably the painter's mark. I am currently selling a large part of my collection because we are retiring and moving to a smaller home. I must use a reserve price on this item, but that price is only 50% of the value of the Vogel's high price for a D categories item. Please ask questions because I am not an expert on antiques, but I do try to describe things the best I can. Please see my other Victorian figurines and trinket boxes that are listed this week. CONDITION: Excellent condition! No chips or breaks, but it does have restoration to the basket's handle on the backside. It's very well done. T is one firing crack on the baby's left shoulder but it doesn't go through and may have happened during firing. Your eyes may be better than mine, but I don't see any other damage. I must use a reserve price on this item, but that price is only 50% of the value of the Vogel's high price for a D categories item.
