LQQKY!! ULTIMATE COLLECTOR CAR 1959 LINCOLN AND 1959 CONTINENTAL MARK IV LUXURY CAR SALEMAN'S DATA AND DEALER BOOK!! VERY, VERY RARE!! Wow! is perhaps one of the most rare and fabulous examples of saved vintage Lincoln and Continental car history... and you can own it.
You are bidding on a VERY RARE 1959 Lincoln and Continental complete deluxe salesman's dealer data book. You won't see another one of these soon and few of these were ever made when new! It contains incredible information, all technical specs, options, actual paint color samples and rare model information never shown in sales brochures. A little background. In 1958-1960, Continental and Lincoln were two separate lines. It was NOT "Lincoln Continental" as it became in later years. The Continental shared its body with Lincoln, but they were completely different cars. The Continental had the reverse-slanted rear window, different roof, different grille, different rear tail lights and trim. Each Continental was refered to as a "Mark", in continuance of the famous Continental Mark I and II series. These magnificent 1958-60 cars were the largest unit-body frameless production cars ever built. Gigantic panoramic windshields not only wrapped around- they wrapped up and back into the roof itself! They were huge and roomy inside and were the "Battlestar Gallactica" approach contrasted to Cadillac's 1959 "rocket ship" school of design. The roofline was first seen on the 1953 Packard Balboa and again on the 1956 Packard Predictor. It is a fact that had Packards continued to be built, they would have looked very much like these cars by the end of the 1950s/early 1960s. As unbelievable as it may seem, these 1958-60 Continentals and Lincolns set records- for instance in the old Mobilgas Economy Run (whatever happened to that??)... and driven by a woman- that itself a milestone in 1958-59! AND...they were a Hollywood favorite and lots of celebrities and movie stars owned them. No matter what anyone TODAY may say, these cars were considered glamorous in 1958-1960. William "Hopalong Cassidy" Boyd had a convertible he used to drive around Palm Springs, California. These cars were shown in lots of films- many major motion pictures- like the beautiful white 1958 Continental convertible driven by Eva Marie Saint in the Hitchcock movie, NORTH BY NORTHWEST. Did you know that the ORIGINAL Continental Mark IV was made in 1959? This book tells the whole history of the Continental Marks in photos and text. The original Mark I was in the 1940s, original Mark II was 1956-57 and original Mark III was 1958. So the ORIGINAL Mark IV was 1959 ONLY. And the original Mark V was 1960 ONLY. This 1959 salesman's data book ALSO contains an entire pictorial history of Lincoln cars starting 1922 to 1959. Over 24 photos of original Lincolns for each year are shown in a historical section. But that's not all. An entire written chronology of Lincoln and Continental history from 1919 through 1958 (over 5 pages) is included! Sadly, revisionist thinking and silly articles and books have scowled at and made fun of these incredible cars. When people in the last 20 years or so look back at these cars, they only talk about low sales and how odd the cars look to modern thinking. Applying 2006 taste, rationales and logic to 1958-1960 is ridiculous as the guy who asked Brooks Stevens why he designed FINS on the Gaylord cars! Anyway, in later years, Lincoln- in a silly rush of shame, decided they wanted to deny these 1958-1960 cars and pretend they didn't exist. So in 1968 they re-introduced a beautiful new model they called "Mark III"... and acted as if the 1958 Mark III was never made. Just like the bicycle history books that for so many years showed antique contraptions from the turn of the century and skipped right into 10-speeds of the 1970s- as if classic balloon tire bicycles didn't exist. So the powers that be at Ford put out an entire revised history of the Mark series, complete with press photos showing the Mark I, Mark...
