This is a large Indenture. The named parties are the Right Honorable Lady Emily Foley of Stoke Edith Park, Herefordshire, widow of Edward Thomas Foley and Francis Reuben Arthur of Putley Court, Putley, Herefordshire. It is dated 19th June 1871. It relates to the sale of five areas of pasture, arable and orchard by Lady Foley to Francis Arthur. The land is in the vicinity of Priggles Farm and off the Putley to Ledbury Road, in Woolhope.The Indenture runs to five pages. The first page measures approx. 70cm x 54cm and the other four pages measure approx. 63cm x 54cm. There is beautiful writing on the fronts of all five pages. The document goes into great detail as to how the land became available to Lady Foley to sell. On the fourth page there is a coloured plan showing the areas of land to be sold (see photo). On the fifth page is a schedule which ties in with the plan and gives the field names and acreages. At the bottom of the document are two small red seals and the clear signature of Emily Foley, and the signature of Francis Reuben Arthur, although his signature his quite faded (see photo). On the back of the document is a note showing the amount paid for the land, and Emily Foley's signature confirming receipt of the money.
