This silver proof coin by the Cook Islands pays tribute to Grand Central Terminal often referred to as Grand Central Station, an astonishing Beaux-arts building in midtown Manhattan celebrating the 100th anniversary of its rebuilding. The obverse side of the silver coin represents the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II. In this coin, the royal portrait is set a bit to the left because of the special glass insert. The image comes surrounded by inscriptions denoting the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and the issuing country. The particular appeal of this Cook Islands coin is its full-color Tiffany glass insert featuring the clock in front of the Grand Central façade delicately completing the stunning elaborate reverse design. First officially opened to the public on February 2, 1913, Grand Central Terminal is both one of the most famous historical landmarks and the busiest train station in the country. The upper part of the coin includes the inscription indicating the series name. Next read more
