This piece is so unique! I have seen diamonds and other gemstones in bottles, but never in an hour glass before! It weighs 2.0 grams (sure LOOKS like a lot more by size and how substantial/well made it is) and measures 18.5mm long (not including the jump and spring ring) by 9.4mm in diameter. The spring ring "bale" allows you to wear it on a charm bracelet (or even clipped to any bracelet near the clasp or link style bracelet). It can also be worn as a pendant on a chain, on silk or rubber cord, OR even has the versatility to be clipped onto a strand of beads. (You of course, have the option of having your local goldsmith removing the spring ring and replacing it with a regular bale) Overall its length is 28mm (there are 25mm in 1") This is probably from the 1970's, and not many pieces like these "survived" (glass broke) but this one did, probably because the glass is inside the "cage" of the gold top and bottom as well as the three bars. It is filled with small (I'm assuming glass) beads that have the look of diamonds when not under the high magnification. These beads flow freely from one side to the other. This could be just a fun piece to buy or gift, or something you can attach sentimentality to.. such as a graduation, an anniversary ("sands of time" sort of theme)I will send this in a nice presentation box (or a pouch if you read more
