For auction a lovely 3-piece Copeland & Sons luncheon set (circa 1867-1890) of vintage brown transferware in a charming pattern of what I believe is a castle or abbey. The buildings' architectural features are lovely; and the trees, fences, bridges, arched entryways, etc. found in the pattern add intricate and interesting detail . The outer rim of the saucer, plate and inner rim of cup have a gorgeous pattern of oak leaves and acorns. The luncheon plate measures 7 ¾" across; the saucer measures 5 ¾" across and is rather deep...standing 1 1/8" tall. The cup stands 2 3/8" tall and measures 3 5/8" across the top. The plate has 5 itty bitty glaze dings on the underside rim...The smallest nothing more that a short craze line...The largest about 1/16" x 1/32". They, of course, are not visible from the front and do not interfere in the least with the plates display or usefulness. The cup also has a short, narrow glaze skip not even 1/8" long x 1/32" wide and hardly worth mentioning. It is found right next to the dark line of transfer that "hangs" from the upper edge. Other than that, all three pieces are in EXCELLENT condition. An amazing feat for pieces at least 116 years old!
