Truly, magnificent 19th c. copper lusterware extra large teapot with tremendous flair! This is English lusterware at its most flamboyant!! The copper luster glaze is in wonderful condition, full of deep copper color that seems to saturate the pottery beneath. Found at an estate sale in Canaan CT in a home that had been in the same family for over a hundred years. The lid of the teapot must have been dropped at some point long ago, and has been pieced together very carefully. On close inspection, of course, the repair can be seen. However, the entire piece makes such an awesome impression, I don't feel the repaired lid really matters. The reserve reflects a consideration because of the condition of the lid. The teapot itself has no chips or damage of any kind. If you collect 19th c. lusterware, or want to start collecting, you shouldn't miss this opportunity! Please also look at the perfect creamer which matches the teapot, also in this auction.
