You are bidding on a NEW AND NEVER BEEN DISPLAYED Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series AA32204 North American P-51D Mustang Diecast Model USAAF 352nd FG, 487th FS, #44-14151 "Petie 2nd", John Meyer, RAF Bodney, England, August 1944. The P-51D's large "bubble-top" canopy allows for easy viewing of a hand-painted pilot figure. A removable engine cowling is included, revealing a detailed Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. This model includes wing mount drop tanks and accurately modeled radiator scoops. When configured for ground display, the wing's structural detail can be seen inside the wheel wells. It is easily convertible for in-flight display on the included stand. This model is in MINT condition and the box also is in MINT condition just as it left the FACTORY IN 2002 . Captain Meyer took the 487th Fighter Squadron to its new base at RAF Bodney in East Anglia and into combat during World War II scoring its first victory in November while flying a P-47. By then he had been promoted to major and began leading the group in aerial victories. He continued to score against German fighters and remain a leading ace after the 352nd transitioned to the P-51 Mustang and adopted their famous "Blue Noses".
