The History behind "The Time Capsule Collection" In 2007, one of the World’s Largest Collections of diecast aircraft and automobiles surfaced in Oregon. Aisle542 bought and sold a large percentage of that collection five years ago. Over 30,000 models were shipped around the world. But, like all great stories, there remained another chapter to be written. For the past 6 years, part of “The Time Capsule Collection” lay hidden in the basement of an old drugstore…unseen and untouched. Aisle542 now presents the last amazing models from “The Time Capsule Collection”. The Story behind the Plane The Third Reich's last ditch efforts to sweep the massed Allied bomber formations from the skies of Germany centered around the new crop of jet 'wonder weapons' that were built from June 1944 onwards. Far in advance of anything the Allies had developed, the Me-262 was the first true jet fighter. In just under a year the Me-262 “Turbo” claimed a staggering 500 allied bombers. Heinz Bar is the 8th ranking air "Ace" of all time. He fought on every German front during World War II in Europe and Africa. His 16 aerial victories acquired while he flew the Me-262A place him as the 2nd ranking jet ace of WWII (behind only the legendary Kurt Welter). While flying just about every type of German fighter, Heinz Bar was shot down 18 times and wounded many more times. Almost all of Heinz Bar's assigned combat aircraft were numbered "Lucky 13", as his own preference regardless of his position within a respective unit. This aircraft was one of the last of a long line of these "Lucky 13's" during this distinguished and incident-packed wartime career. This aircraft was wearing an upper surface camouflage combination of dark brown and bright medium green over pale blue undersides. He first claimed a French Curtiss-Hawk on September 25, 1939 and went onto amass an incredible 204 aerial victories before moving onto the Me-262. Bär, a Saxon with a strong accent, joined the Reichswehr in 1934 and transferred to the Luftwaffe in 1935. Serving first as a mechanic, then as a pilot on transport aircraft, he was informally trained as a fighter pilot. He claimed his first aerial victory in September 1939 on the French border. By the end of the Battle of Britain, his tally of victories had increased to 17. Transferred to the Eastern front to participate in Operation Barbarossa, he quickly accumulated further kills, a feat that earned him the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords for 90 aerial victories in February 1942.
