His painting was based on a calendar girl, placed against a mountainous backdrop, and accompanied by the audacious titling Mount N" Ride! The aircraft and Lt Roman Maziarz's crew flew their first mission to Avord, in France, just four days after the bomber was delivered to the 91st BG. On February 6 Lt Doyle Bradford's crew took over the B-17, and they flew another five missions with it until March 16, when the bomber lost both inboard engines to flak during a raid on Lechfeld airfield. Bradford struggled over the Alps to Switzerland, w he put the bomber safely down at Dubendorf.
