For auction is a CORO STERLING pin in the shape of a long floral spray tied with a ribbon. The sterling silver is plated in rose gold. The flowers are represented by 11 foiled, prong-set, marquise amethyst rhinestones. This pin is in excellent vintage condition, consistent with its 65 years of use, but it would definitely benefit from a gentle cleaning. The foiling is nearly perfect, the plating fresh and unworn, the rhinestones darkly sparkling. The pinback is straight and secure. Pink, or rose gold is created by alloying god with silver and copper. This shade goes beautifully with the deep purple of the rhinestones.Sterling silver was very popular with Coro designers during World War II due to the rationing of strategic metal; silver was not needed for the War effort. Also. the Swarovski rhinestones that Coro imported before the war were now unavailable, except for what the manufacturers had stockpiled, which made it necessary to create designs that used few or no rhinestones.I did not find another example of the net. The pin is signed STERLING BY CORO and measures a shade less than 3 by 1.5 inches (7.6 by 3.8 cm). I date this pin to between 1942 and 1945. Sterling Craft was Coro's sterling division from 1933 until World War II forced the closure of the English factory. Sterling production eventually moved to Mexico, w Coro purchased a factory and contracted with Mexican designers. Coro was the largest manufacturer of costume jewelry in United States during the golden age of the 30's, 40's, and 50's. Many styles of Coro jewelry are avidly collected today.I will mail this pin to you, as soon as payment is confirmed, by first-class mail in a padded envelope.
