What's unique about this working Corona 3 typewriter is that its platen and rollers have been professionally restored by Ames Typewriter Supply in Chicago in 2005. Ames puts new rubber on platens and rollers and has been in business since the 1910s. This costly process insures a clean and beautiful print (as you can see in the photos) and a firm grip on the page. Also note the nice decals and paint, the intact return lever (often broken or lost) and also back-space key (often broken or lost). This machine is circa 1919 and includes its original carrying case as shown in the photos. Although this machine is working and freshly oiled, it is not designed for speed typing. The keyboard layout isn't exactly standard like the one on your computer in front of you. Next, due to the mechanics of the Corona 3, it just doesn't have the rapid typing abilities like the heavier desktop typewriters. This was intended to be portable. Typing is easiest when the machine is in its original case due to the support from the brackets it sits on. The original rubber feet were not vulcanized and made of pure rubber which softens and rots within a few years. Thus, the original thick rubber feet the machines had originally are always gone or smashed flat. This machine is no exception.
