Sven Hedin, Explorer of the Far East (Siberia) and Author. This envelope was mailed from Peking China by Sven Hedin to his sister Alma in Stockholm, Sweden. This cover bears his name written by his hand. The postmarks are not adequately clear for me to date this, but I believe the stamps would place this from the early 1930's. No receiver or transition postmarks. Could this be when he would have been preparing for a motorcade across Siberia to Moscow? That's my best guess to describe this item and if you got this far you probably know much more on these subjects than I do.The stamps are on the backside and over the flap and consist of Chinese issues. The stamps all appear to be in very fine condition and consist of 3x 1Ct yellow (one pair and a single, perf four sides), 1x 4Cts green (single, perf four sides), and Green 3x 10Cts blue (triple, straight edge to left ). You know, I really like this stamp issue. The cover was registered and bears a registration label, and it appears to have a partial via siberia' manuscript on the address side, which indicates a reduced top. The cover has typical edge and corner wear (see pictures) but is nice for its age and transport route across Siberia to Sweden from China. Very item is rare and interesting has viewed both historically and postally, but it needs a new home where it be better appreciated. read more
