The United States paid France, during the Jefferson Presidency, over 11 million dollars for what has become known as "The Louisiana Purchase". This is a great set of first day covers, not only for its' intrinsic value, but for the wealth of knowledge on the reverse of each cover. Lewis and Clark were some of the first of the Army Corps of Engineers. Only by reading the reverse of these covers did I learn so much about America's history. There are a total of twenty envelopes (2 on10 sheets) all original works of art by Paul and Chris Calle. The collection will come in its' own leather-like album for safe keeping. For your protection, I can have it delivered by registered mail. I know you'll treasure this collection as the works of art are magnificent.
