This is a handpainted floral design on thumbprint Cranberry Glass Pickle Castor with a Homan Manufacturing Company Silverplated stand with one pair of tongs. It stands 11" high from stand feet to top of stand. The stand is hallmarked on the bottom: "Quadruple plate" with an" Anchor " emblem. The end of the Homan "MAN" and 1084 are also stamped on the bottom. The stand has a beautiful decorative bow at the top and leaf and scroll design on the base and base of the lid. The lid finial is a floral and leaf design. There are four legs on the stand. The cranberry glass is thumbprint with a handpainted flower and leaf design in pinks, greens, and white. The top of the glass has a gold rim as well as at the base of the cranberry glass . The tongs appear to be brass with pewter appliques, but I wouldn't swear to it being pewter and it is unmarked. This is a really nice pickle castor which has been well maintained and stored carefully. It is bright with little fading of the handpainted floral design. There are no chips, cracks, or dents. The Homan Manufacturing Company operated in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1847 -1941 when they were bought by International Silver (now a division of Syratech Corp, Meriden, CT. U.S.A. Early pieces are marked Flagg and Homan. Until 1887- changed to electroplating and in 1896, firm listed as Homan Silver Plate Co. and between 1904 and 1915, they became the Homan Manufacturing Company going out of business in 1941. So my best guess is this is from the late twenties or early thirties.
