For your rosary collection, or as a commemorative gift for First Eucharist, Confirmation, or Matrimony-- A very long antique sterling silver rosary by Creed, hanging length about 21 and 1/2 inches. Very nice used condition. I gave this rosary a quick polish but the new owner will want to take more pains with the Wright's Silver Cream! Age: This rosary is a family piece, probably from the late 1930s or early 1940s. (The company has been in business in MA since the mid-'30s as I understand it.) Other than that I have no documentation. (My great uncle was a priest, so we have more than enough rosaries for everyone in the family!) The family lived in Boston. Crucifix measures a generous 2 and 1/4 inches high and 1 and 3/8 inches across. Reverse states CREED STERLING. Parts of the front are Brilliant cut silver. Quite elaborate detailing to the terminus of each section of the Cross. Corpus separately cast, finely detailed, and riveted to the crucifix. See drapery, Crown of Thorns, ribcage. Central medal is oval and shows the Madonna and Child with rays of light in the background. The Blessed Virgin wears her Queen of Heaven crown. Marked CREED STERLING on left side. At the bottom is written something else, but I can't really read it--I think it says STERLING again. Reverse depicts a frontal view of Jesus showing the Sacred Heart. read more
