Listed below are the monthly issues of the original CREEM MAGAZINE: February 1986 April 1986 May 1986 June 1986 July 1986 August 1986 October 1986 November 1986 December 1986 As you can see from the listing, some of the issues are either missing or borrowed and never returned or stolen. I am the original owner and had a subscription to this fine rock magazine. These magazines are not mint, but are in excellent condition considering their age. Some of the covers may have been separated from the staples holding the magazine together. On a plus note, I am the original owner, had a subscription to this magazine and have kept the best of care for these magazines over the years. I have kept them safe & sound, away from moisture, water & heat.The above magazine lot from 1986 are here and below is a review from a book covering the years of Creem Magazine and its importance in history of rock music…A following description of these magazine issues are after the description of CREEM MAGAZINE which was an excerpt from the April 2008 issue of Vintage Guitar magazine written by E.C.M. The following was a review of the book, “Creem: America’s Only Rock n Roll Magazine,” which is a book about the infamous Creem Magazine… “First there was Rolling Stone, then Crawdaddy. And there were the usual teen music mags. Then there was CREEM Magazine, the darling of Detroit. Of all the rock journalism magazines at the time, none approached CREEM for its irreverence and outright audacity in praising and insulting the music, musicians, record companies, groupies, roadies, and oseurs and anyone else associated with counter culture of the period. Though published from 1969-1988 ( a later incarnation of the mag did not include the founding editorial team), CREEM was very much a 70s magazine in attitude, ethos, and influence. This was no copy-cat. It featured legendary writers such as Lester Bangs, Dave Marsh, Cameron Crowe, and Dave DiMartino and laid waste to the stifling conventions of rock journalism at the time with rabid, raucous reporting and revealing photos of bands in sometimes compromising positions. CREEM didn’t dabble in politics, or social causes, or the meaning of youth culture. Rather, this was the magazine that made readers laugh at silly crude jokes, put fictitious captions on photos that were as funny as they were ironic, referred to Rush’s bassist as “Geddy Lee Roth” (causing them to never again speak to anyone associated with the band), pictured Billy Gibbons in their regular “Stars Cars” feature with a horse and buggy. CREEM lampooned other journalists and music “artists” and even themselves. This was editorial that matched the music for intensity and fun, appealing to music fans first. This is the CREEM that people remember, and it is celebrated in this large feature book that reprints some of the best articles and photos from the magazine’s lengthy run. Who could forget “Alice Cooper’s Alcohol Cookbook” or the record review of Mountain’s Twin Peaks double album from ’74, where the review takes the form of the two records talking to each other, and one says “I love the way Leslie West screams like a castrated pig when he sings,” or the famous Boy Howdy beer ads? In the 19670s, being pictured with a Boy Howdy can in CREEM was the truest sign that a band had made it. Thought it soldiered on into the 80s, CREEM became ever more irrelevant as music changed and MTV took over. In retrospect, they probably stopped before they became a parody of themselves.
