CREWE ALEXANDRA CITY FOOTBALL CLUB - SUPPORTERS - LAPEL BADGE. Crewe Alexandra were formed in 1877 as Crewe Football Club, separate from the successful Crewe Cricket Club. The Alexandra was taken from the name of the public house, which provided the clubs first changing rooms etc. The clubs first game was against North Staffs and resulted in a 1-1 draw. In 1884 they played Scottish club Queens Park from Glasgow, in the F.A. Cup which they lost 0-10. In 1885 the club adopted red shirts, white shorts and red socks as its colours. In 1888 later the reached the semi-finals of the competition, beating Derby County F.C. and Middlesbrough F.C. before losing to Preston North End F.C.From 1886 the club played in white shirts and navy blue shorts and socks. In 1889 the club joined the Football Alliance, rivals of the Football League. In 1892 the Alliance was incorporated into the League as Division Two. Crewe were one of its founding members. In four seasons, the club had to apply for re-election three times and in 1896 they lost their place. The following year, the club managed to sign all their players as professionals. The Club moved to a new ground on Gresty Road in 1898 and have played homes games there since.
