Up for auction is this beautiful ANTIQUE CRISS CROSS ADIRONDACK FRAME, CARVED WITH 4 CORNER LEAVES, GILT INSERT, OLD WAVY GLASS, OLD MAT WITH OGEE SHAPE WINDOW SHOWING EXQUISITE NEEDLEWORK ON PINK SATIN. The needlework depicts 4 sprigs of white Lily of the Valley with leaves of various shades of green, yellow and brown. The inscription in brown ink on the back reads: "Given by members of first infant class of 1st Presb church of East Hampton to Elizabeth H. Dayton, organizer of class, Christmas 1869". Another label indicates that the mat is "Mat No 5 by L. Prang of Boston", I assume Prang of Post Card fame. Part of the original wooden backing is also present. I just realized that behind the old backing board is a small envelope with this handwritten note: "This picture was given me by members of the Infant Class. The first one held in the 1st Presbyterian Church of East Hampton. Organized by Elizabeth H. Cartwright in 1869. The children gave this to me Christmas of 1869. (signed) Elizabeth H. Cartwright" The frame measures 15 1/2 x 17". The carved wood is golden brown, the leaves are carved very roughly, it looks to me t are 2 tips missing, but you cannot tell for sure because of the old patina. The picture - frame and needlework - is in very good condition. Adding the history and date of this piece it makes it a wonderful piece read more
