Cat's Whisker Radio - Ricevitore Galena - Detektorempfänger - Poste � Galène Crystal Radio Receiver/Receiving Set, with no markings, although its boasts an all-important "BBC" PMG approved stamp, it does not carry a * GPO registration number.... * British crystal sets are of the highest quality, and regarded by collectors the world over today as the best, whilst the British PMG Registration Number system makes the earlier British crystal radios even more collectable. On October 18, 1922, the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) was set up by a consortium of radio receiver manufacturers (Western Electric, Marconi, General Electric, British Thomson-Houston, Radio Communication and Metropolitan Vickers) for regular broadcasting of programmes of speech and music, but the spread of broadcasting was more or less held back by the need to obtain a receiving licence from the Postmaster-General. On January 1st, 1925 stamp regulations were abolished and firms were no longer obliged to use any BBC stamps ..... some of the now rarest crystal sets were therefore made in the smallest outlets, such as bicycle shops, many with a distributor's plate, many without ....
