This is a home made Crystal Radio Set featuring dual tap switches and a very large Catwhisker Detector made by A. W. Bowman Co, Boston, Mass. The front panel is gloss Bakelite mounted to a wooden base. The tuning coil is wound on a four inch diameter fifer form using cloth covered copper wire. Two ten position tap switches are used for tuning and detector matching. Four nickel plated terminals on the front panel are for antenna, ground, and phones. The unique feature of this set is its jumbo A. W. Bowman detector stand, mounted to the front panel. The detector base measures 6" x 2 1/2 ". It almost looks like you need two hands to operate it. It is spring loaded so that the actual whisker wire can be rigid. It is really easy to operate. Size is 11 ½"W x 8 ½H x 8 ½"D. The wires on the coil are a little loose and sagging. This is purely cosmetic and does not affect performance, so it's a personal preference if you want to tighten up the turns. T are no cracks, chips, gouges, or scratches on this set. It has led a sheltered life with no signs of misuse or abuse. The tap switches turn freely and smoothly. This set is tested using a 30 foot attic antenna, a ground, and 2000 ohm phones.
