Offered for your bidding pleasure is this reproduction Curly Maple Whales Tail pillar and scroll clock made by Robert Materne of Bristol, RI! I have been a collector of clocks for over twenty years and I can say without a doubt, Bob's pillar and scroll clocks are the most authentic and genuine reproduction you'll ever come across, hands down. The only difference between Bob's clock and an antique is the movement which is a brass eight day time and strike by Hermle. Since this case is an exact replica, it can accomodate a 30 hour wooden movement but that would be up to the new owner to take on that task. The case is finished with eight coats of shellac! The wooden blocks, skirt and scroll top are all placed in with hide glue (see pictures). The wooden dial is painted by a local artist, Kathy Kittrell, note the colorful spandrels. The reverse painted tablet is painted on old glass by Moberg with his signature as shown in the picture. The upper glass is hand blown and both upper and lower glasses are puttied in place just as one would expect to see with a true reproduction pillar and scroll. Note the whales tails at the scroll top and the skirt, the curly maple plinths of the chimneys and the fine use of woods and the graining the case exhibits throughout, top to bottom and side to side.
