Very good condition, custom made carpenter's axe made to order by an edge tool blacksmith in Sweden in the 1990's. The tool is made from a laminated design with a high carbion edge steel with forge-welded softer covers of lower carbon steel on each side. The back striking surface is reinforced with a high carbon steel cover to allow for use as a hammer while preventing damage to the axe. The tool also has a notch for removal of nails, and also a larger notch allowing for close grip of the axe to allow for precision carving. The edge is about 5 3/8" long, and total length ogf the axe is about 20 inches, includingf the curved handle. The edge is beveled on both sides. The tool holds a durable, razor sharp edge for a long time if well taken care of. A heavy duty leather cover is provided for protection of the cutting edge.
