D Guard Bowie Knife Civil War Dagger by Taylor Knives.Taylor Knives started in 1997 and has had knives featured in museums and in GUNS magazine. The knife is a based on several relics of an unknown manufacturer that was produced during the war.The sheath has a leather frog and a Jappaned finished wooden sheath. Japanned finished sheaths were made starting as far back as the 1700's and were a perfect way to apply a tough finish for campaign equipment. Will fit a 2" belt.This knife is a forged 1095 tool steel version these Civil War knives. The blade has been antiqued and differentially heat treated* for real use. Historically accurate construction and the blade goes all the way through the handleand is fastened on the pommel.* Differential hardening is a method used in knife making to increase the hardness of the edge without making the whole blade brittle.
