This item is a beautiful (if you can use that word to describe a knife) custom made Bowie type hunting knife with sheath. This knife was made by some fellow known as Pickering who was produced his knives in Crawford, Nebraska. The overall length of this knife is 14" inches. The length of the blade is almost 8.5" inches. The blade is made of carbon steel and lightly sharpened. The throat of the blade is stamped PICKERING KNIVES CRAWFORD, NEB. on both sides. The handle is made of a reddish colored stag. The guard and the pommel are made of brass. The pommel is also stamped with the name PICKERING KNIVES......" The name is also stamped on the scabbard. This man Pickering was sure proud of this knife and with good reason. It is well balanced, handsome , and functional. The leather scabbard is in very good condition. It has no dry rot, loose stitches or rivets. The back of the sheath has a loop riveted on so the knife could be carried on your belt. This sheath is worked with the image of a cougar with a desert type background. I believe this knife was made sometime during the 1970's but I am not for sure. The only thing I can find out about Pickering Knives is other people asking about Pickering Knives. Any information anyone might willing to share about Pickering knivves would greatly be appreciated. The buyer pays $6.95 for US mail shipping as this knife is heavy. Overseas shipping and insurance if desired costs extra. Either check or money order will be accepted.
