Lakota Design Studio "Wovoka- Ghost Dance" Original Signed Pony Painted by Artist Cheri Olson WOVOKA- GHOST DANCE "When the Sun died, I went up to Heaven and saw God and all the people who had died a long time ago. God told me to came back and tell my people they must be good and love one another and not fight or steal or lie. He gave me this dance to give my people." These are the words that were spoken by a Paiute prophet named Wovoka after a full eclipse on New Years Day of 1889. This dance he brought to his people was the "Ghost Dance". By this time is history all of the tribes were being kept captive of the US government. Most of the treaties had been broken and promises we not kept. Food, clothing and shelter were in short supply. Most had lost everything they owned and were barely scraping by. To say the least times were desperate. Wovoka brought new hope to the people, his vision had lead him to believe that if the dancers would dance for five days and four nights, then bath in the river before returning home that the buffalo would return as would their love ones that had died in the Indian Wars. The Ghost Dance would bring joy and prosperity back to The People. This Dance would be danced in a circle. At the core of the dance is the drum or the heart beat of the mother spirit. The dance and the promise of hope spread like wildfire through out the western tribes. In the minds of The People it was their last hope. Many of the Tribes once enemies now joined together to participate in the Ghost Dance Wovoka Pony Depicts the sunrise and the coming of new hope for The People. On his right hip is a symbol of Wovoka and the Eclipse. On the Ponie's back he wears a real buffalo blanket and a custom beaded drape and bridle for the occasion. On the ground at his feet is the Dance Drum made with real rawhide and painted with a symbol of the buffalo, and drum stick. All of the articles are handmade by the artist Cheri Olson. P.S. the glue under the drum stick was not completely dry when the picture was taken and it shows white. It is now dry and is clear. Cheri Olson is of Sigangu Sioux and Cherokee Descent and a horse lover from birth. She started a career as a professional horseman in her teen years while studying the arts in school. Her horse career kept her on the move around the country, working at the time with Thoroughbred race horses. She later settled in Wisconsin to raise a family and a small herd of Grulla Quarter Horses. The long Wisconsin winters gave Cheri lots of time to pursue her artistic interests from painting, basket making, artist jewelry line and fiber arts. Now that the kids have all left the nest Cheri and her husband have moved to their dream farm in Central Kentucky. This horse is an original, one of a kind Painted Pony. Hand painted using only the finest artist's acrylic paints. After painting the pony is sealed with four coats of matte acylic finish to protect its surface.This pony would be a very special addition to anyone's collection or a special one of a kind gift for that horse lover you know. All of the ponies are in mint condition before they are painted, all rough spots are sanded smooth and every pony is very carefully cleaned with a resin cleaner before it is painted. All ponies are shipped with their original box, leg tag, named, dated, signed by the artist and numbered 1/1 on the bottom. I accept PayPal payments only.
