This is an as-new condition and unfired .50 cal (1/2") smoothbore Mountain Howitzer model cannon manufactured by Dika in Spain for CVA. It is one of the collectible series of small signal (no projectile) cannons sold as unfinished kits by Connecticut Valley Arms in the 70's and 80's. The CVA .44 cal "Old Ironsides" naval cannons and .75 cal Napoleons come up at auction frequently, but this model is rarely seen. This unused example was finished with care, not thrown together on a 4th of July morning by a 12 year old. The hardwood carriage and wheels have been carefully sanded and finished with dark stain and an oil finish. No splits, cracks or gouges anyw The steel hardware has been blued, the barrel (also steel) left in the white. No rust anyw Brass screws secure the trunion caps. The 5 1/4" long barrel has a powder chamber (about 1/4" diameter) just like the original Mountain Howitzer. This allows the cannon to be safely fired with a blank charge by a fuse if you desire. The barrel is marked "black powder only" on top, and "Spain" on the bottom. It has a working elevation screw. The 4" diameter wheels are tightly assembled with steel dowel pins and turn freely on the steel axle. Metal tires are included if you want to attach them to the wheels. Note that the wheels will be removed from the carriage to prevent damage during shipping. read more
