Cycling Touring Guide No 4 by Harold Briercliffe – South West England An original edition of the classic cycling guide by Harold Briercliffe from 1948. Used as the inspiration for the Britain by Bike television series Harold Briercliffe was the Alfred Wainwright of cycling and his books provide great insight into cycling in various parts of the UK in the 1940s. Harold's fascinating description of the towns, villages and roads of Britain at the time is a joy for all those who love these isles and especially for cyclists looking for inspiration Condition is good given its age however there is some ingrained dust to the covers and the binding is a little loose and needs a little bit of care when reading I notice on Amazon that the series is about to be reprinted following the TV series. However this is an original. About the author Harold Briercliffe (1910-1994) was a Rochdale born author of a series of cycle touring guides. These were a spin-off from the magazine Cycling (a magazine now published as Cycling Weekly). They were cheaply made volumes with attractive colour print covers, designed to be kept in the pocket of saddlebags. In 2010, Clare Balding presented a BBC TV series that retraced some of Briercliffe's routes using his old Dawes Super Galaxy.
