Cypraea mus bicornis (Sowerby,1870) Another beautiful shell from MdM Shells - supplying specimen shells since 1974 GEM condition 53.5mm live collected Colombia This subspecies is one of the more peculiar members of the Cypraea since I do not know of another shell in this family that has tubercles on the dorsum like this shell has. T are a few other form names that have been given to this shell but I find them indistinguishable from one another. The bright glare across the dorsum on this shell does not allow you to have a clear look at the large pronounced tubercle on the highest part of the dorsum. It can be seen in profile in the side view of the shell. The second tubercle blends in with the color of the shell but can be seen on the left hand side of the photo of the shell's dorsal view above the margin near the canal. This species is found in a small and very restricted range off the Guajira Penninsula (between Colombia and Venezuela) and comes from deep water . It is by no means a common species and specimens that are available are seldom as beautiful as this one. All of my shells are strictly graded according to accepted international standards. For a shell to be graded "Gem" it must be free of visible flaws.I assign grade of "Fine+" if t are minor flaws in the shell that do not detract from the beauty of the shell. A grade of "Fine" is given to shells that have obvious flaws but typically shells of this species are apt to have of this type. All of my shells are live collected and not artificially enhanced unless otherwise stated All of my shells come with complete collecting data, Your complete satisfaction with your purchase is guaranteed.
