This pretty iridescent vase is 3.25 inches high, about 4.5 inches at its widest and has an opening of about 3 inches in diameter. Attributed to Kralik, it was produced at about 1900. It has a simple and elegant urn-like form and has an overall raised pattern that resembles alligator skin. The iridescence is over a silvery gold transparency. I have seen this patterning referred to as "Nautilus" but would appreciate any expert correction in my amateur's description. T are two very attractive green gold iridescent applied glass decorations called "rigaree". The pontil is ground and polished but I can feel a little rough spot on the bottom slightly concave center. The top rim is ground and polished. The only flaw, done in the making, is a stray glass thread that I have tried to show in the photographs. Although it exhibits a delicate artistry, it has a nice weight and an enjoyable tactile impression as well. When you look through the piece, each small window is reflected many times over to produce a greatly pleasing visual effect that I hope has been adequately captured in some of the photos! A pleasure to both the eye and the hand, it could also be used to display a small bouquet. Thanks very much for looking at my auction. I am always glad to answer questions or provide additional photos. I ship very promptly and pack very carefully. read more
