Rare 3-D Silver Pontonier T-Bar Pin with Brass Castle This is an incredibly detailed silver and brass pin signifying membership in the Engineer and Pontonier Corps, the engineers who built the floating pontoon bridges critical for Army transport. The badge of the Engineer and Pontonier Corps was officially described as follows: "Two oars crossed over an anchor, the top of which is encircled by a scroll surmounted by a castle; the castle being the badge of the U. S. corps of engineers." Most Army Corps badges were quite simple in accordance with Gen. Hooker's original order. Some however, eventually told something of a story. Not to be outdone, the Engineer and Pontonier Corps badge is among the most intricate. The Engineer Corps, however, wore only the castle designed in brass. As a result Pontonier pins were often unavailable, or were sold without the brass castle adorning the top of the badge (See Phillips Civil War Corps Badges and Other Related Awards, Badges, Medals of the Period) Most of the Corps badges were sold through newspaper advertisements, circulars, agents of jewellers, and sutlers stores throughout the Civil War This is an incredibly detailed silver and brass pin complete with the brass castle and three dimensional braid of rope! After the war, veterans cherished their corps badges, and were frequently seen in parades of the Grand Army of the Republic with models of their badges made in enamel, silver or gold pinned to the breast or suspended from a ribbon around the neck of the uniform. This is guaranteed to be an authentic Civil War (or perhaps G.A.R.) T-Bar pin. S&H is $9.99 via Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.
