DACHSHUND (DOXIE) TERRY HAND TOWEL- The towel measures approx. 25½" long and 16½ wide and has a b/t smooth doxie embroidered (by machine) on the band near the bottom. The towel is a "light" cream color - - - note the "paw prints" in the terry part of the towel. This auction will help Lacey - her story follows - - On 1/5/07 Lacey & her "sister" Scooter were outside to potty when one of them started "screaming." Her owners rushed out and Lacey was down on the ground flopping around. They took her inside, set her down and she took off except that she couldn't use either of her right legs - -somehow she really hurt herself. The next day she could walk but she wasn't controlling her bowel movements, just went as she walked and if she felt a jolt of pain she tried to run away from it so she was put on strict crate rest until they could get her to her vet later that day. Vet put her on a high dose steroids and pain meds as well as strict crate rest because the x-ray showed some narrowing of one disc in her lower back. Lacey still had no control of her bladder or bowels, could walk but had deep pain. 1/8/07 Lacey seemed a bit better - - didn't cry when they got her out of her crate and peed on her own outside but couldn't hold the position and couldn't poop but it was a start. Later that day she had a temp of 103.5 so was put on antibiotic, seemed to be doing better, was more alert and not crying out. Wed. they got her an appt. with a specialist for the next day as she wasn't doing as well as she should be and they didn't want to let it go on if it was something that needed to be fixed. 1/11 the specialist was as perplexed as were both vets that her owner (who is a vet tech) works with- - specialist said Lacey wasn't presenting like a back injury or t are several things going on at once. Her temp was over 104 and she had stopped eating so they left her t and she was put on IV fluids - ran blood work and if it didn't show a major infection she was scheduled to have a series of tests and x-rays the next day. Friday x-rays showed that Lacey has 4 fused vertebrae in her neck which the vet said was probably a congenital condition since she is so young and when she injured herself it caused the first vertebrae to separate. Normally they go in and fuse the first 2 but since she already has 4 that are fused that is not an option as it sets her up for serious injury below the fused discs. She stayed at the vet over-night on Friday & came home on Sat with a neck brace for six weeks to try to heal the injury with a major problem being that she is a young dog and is likely to re-injure herself in the future and t is really no guarantee that the brace will work. Lacey's total bill was over $1,200 and that's providing she doesn't have to go back any time soon for more evaluation. Please keep Lacey in your thoughts & prayers.
