Martin Riskin was born in NY into a family consisting of numerous musicians, the most prominent being Jascha Heifetz. Heifetz' father was Martin't violin teacher and gave up when, at the age of 8, Martin exhibited a complete lack of talent. Martin graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and the City College of NY. After service overseas with the U.S. Army, he entered the hotel field, becoming the Director of Banquets at the St. Regis, Pierre , Plaza, and Waldorf= Astoria , then General Manager of the Lotos Club. Following that, Martin became the head of Schenley Imported Wines and then the President of L'Aiglon Wine and Spirits Import Company. After this he became the U.S. consultant for Remy Martin and other wine and spirits companies. In 1991 he founded Amaris, Ltd., which produces customized compact discs of music for leading hotels and international airlines. In the musical world, he was a founder of the NY Youth Symphony, the Puccini Foundation, the Sibelius Society, the Massenet Society, and the The World of Musicians. Martin also served on the boards of the Concert Artists Guild, American Landmark Festivals and other organizations such as the Manhattan Theatre Club. He has been on the board of the American Symphony Orchestra for 24 years, serving as the Chairman from 1990 to 1994. Living in Hawaii from 1995 to 1 998, Martin was the founder of the Prince Albert Music Festival and the Kauai International Theatre. Now, permanently back in NY, he has returned to the American Symphony Orchestra and is on the Music Committee of the National Arts Club. The French Minister of Culture decorated Martin as Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters. In the 1980's he became a founder and VP of the Raoul Wallenberg Committee of the U.S. Martin also serves as VP of the American Scandinavian Society and Chairman of the Music Committee. In addition, he is a board member of the E. & G. Ford Foundation, which sponsors young American conductors and composers. During the late 1960's and early 1970's when he was banquet manager of the St. Regis Hotel in NY Salvador Dali lived in the St. Regis during those years for 3 to 4 months every year. Martin saw him almost every day and even visited Dali at the Meurice Hotel in Paris and his castle in Spain . Being an admirer of Dali, and friendly with him, on many occasions he asked Dali to sign variety of times, mostly of his works which he did. You will receive a copy of the letter Martin wrote regarding the authenticity of the signature.
