This full tang knife has a Damascus guard, bolster, and end bolt as well as nice file work on the spine. It never had a sheath, so a light travel sheath made of black leather was made for it. (See photos below.)

Background Story About the Knife At the Southern California Blades Knife Show in February 2006, the previous owner personally asked Jim Ferguson to authenticate the knife (since t are no visible makers marks on the Bowie). Jim Ferguson confirmed that he was indeed the maker of this knife and told an interesting story about the origin of this knife...
It seems that the sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, wanted a unique and impressive gift for his brother, Prince Jefri, so he commissioned Jim to make a one-of-a-kind knife for his brother.
Jim made this amazing Damascus/pattern-welded high carbon steel Bowie to the Sultan's unique specifications, but before he got a chance to deliver it, Prince Jefri completely ruined his relationship with his brother. It seems the Prince, who was finance minister of Brunei at that time, was embezzling funds to the tune of BILLIONS from the government of Brunei, and subsequently from his brother, the Sultan. The prince's assets were frozen; he was taken to court and hit with a travel ban.(*See articles referenced below for details of the drama in Brunei revolving around Prince Jefri's case.) Needless to say, after that whole fiasco, the Sultan no longer wanted to give Prince Jefri ANY gifts, much less a beautiful and unique custom made Damascus Bowie knife.
Jim said that even though he was frustrated at losing a $3000.00 sale, he still made some money by selling it to someone else. Eventually, the previous owner purchased it in January of 2003. During this year's Southern California Blades Knife Show, Jim mentioned that he had stopped making Damascus steel due to health considerations.
