Damaskeening is the application of interlacing gold on iron or steel to produce beautiful decorative designs that has become the trademark of Toledo, Spain for centuries. The art of Damascene was practiced for centuries by Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Around the XV century the art work became popular in Europe, and Toledo, Spain became famous worldwide for producing such works of art. These clip on earrings are no exception and are quite beautiful. Condition is very good with just a little bit of wear to the gold fill on the reverse which of course is not noticable. These are not marked as is the case with many of the pieces. Often times they come with a card with the description, no card however with these. Though not tested, most of the pieces made used 24kt gold. Condition is very good and they are 1 7/8" long with the upper portion measuring "1/2" and the dangle portion measuring "3/4".
