Child's Blue Transferware Handleless Cup GOAT GIRL Edge Malkin & Co Staffordshire England c. 1860 This rare Victorian transferware childs or dolls handleless cup or tea bowl circa 1860, was originally part of a complete miniature children's tea set. The cup stands just 1 1/2" tall and 2 7/8" in diameter across the top rim, with a rounded Chinese shape. Transfer printed in country blue on an earthenware blank with pearlware glaze, decorated in the scarce GOAT pattern (also known as "Goat Girl" or "Dancing Goat"), depicting a girl dancing with her pet goat – some collectors say it looks like a dog. There is a manor house in the background with lush vegetation and a twisted loop border pattern. The image repeats on each side of the cup, modified inside the cup. The pattern name is GOAT. The cup is unmarked except for a two dot tally mark. The pattern is commonly associated with the maker Cork Edge Malkin and Co, a 19th century Staffordshire pottery manufactory. The pattern is discussed in Doris Lechler's English Toy China as well as Lorraine Punchard's Playtime Pottery and Porcelain from the UK and US . Most of the cups in this pattern are handled; these handleless cups show up only once in a while. The cup is in overall good condition with some nibbling on the footrim and no chips cracks or repairs. Minor transfer imperfections
