Danish Krag-Jorgensen M.1889 w Scabbard & Repro. Frog +Documents FINE Condition I've been collecting bayonets for a number of years, specializing in W.W. II blades. It's now time to thin out my collection by putting some up for auction. I'm starting with bayos that are pre-W.W. II or from countries that were non-belligerents during "The Big War". You are bidding on a Danish Krag-Jorgensen M. 1889 bayo w scabbard & frog along w information and documentation on this type of bayo and this one in particular. *FINDING AN AUTHENTIC FROG FOR THIS MODEL OF BAYONET IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE ONLY SEEN TWO UP FOR AUCTION IN THE LAST 3 YEARS AND THEY FINALLY WENT FOR A FORTUNE!!!! Because I like to have a frog w my bayonets & scabbards I purchased the best reproduction of the correct model frog I could find. I bought one on ebay made by H. Savage, who, many of you know, is an experienced leather worker & frog maker. I don't think you can do any better than his items unless you get an authentic one in good condition. *See the description below. Description: Bayonet blade - bright steel knife design w spear point double edged up to 2" from the point. It has nice clean fullers on each side. T is absolutely no rust, just a few pitting spots near the point. THIS BAYO IS CONSTRUCTED IN ONE PIECE W TANG & HILT PART OF THIS ONE PIECE!! The blade has not been sharpened but was originally from 2" down to the point. The blade widens at its ricasso which tapers from the back blade's 3/16" to the tang's 9/16". Markings: on the left side of the crossguard are RKV over KOBHVN in upper case letters. Unlike some of these models this was not made in Germany for the Danish, it was made in Denmark, Copenhagen in fact. Crossguard - is small & only protrudes on the underside to a point. This point locks onto a lock spring on the side of the throat of the scabbard. The crossguard is 90% blued. T are no defects obvious, such as nicks, dings, etc. Markings: on the left side is a small crown over the number 11. Grips - are original, nicely grained brown WOOD recessed into the surrounding tang/hilt & flush w its width. The grips are secured to the tang w two brass rivets (screws?) the heads of which are also flush w the grips. The grips are in excellent condition w no major defects except for 4 pin prick dings on the sides & 3 on the underside contoured edge of the right grip. I'M TALKING ABOUT REALLY SMALL - ALMOST CAN'T SEE THEM. All the steel around the grips retains most (90%) of its blueing. T are a few small clusters of pitting on the top edge, mostly covered by blueing. Pommel - is the end of the one piece construction & has a modified bird's head design. It is mostly blued (85%). The stud groove is clean & the rifle lug spring works well, The stud, which activates it, protrudes from the rear of the pommel & is secured in place by a machine screw who's head is flush on the right side. T is some minor cluster pitting on the right side & 2 very slight dings on the left side. T IS NO RUST ON THIS BAYO!! Markings: right side has the serial no. 11B.576. w a line engraved through it horizontally. Below that is a new number, 18B1076. The B is partially superimposed over a smaller "K"located right above the head of the prviously mentioned machine screw. The left side has the no. 77902 engraved on it . OVERALL CONDITION - VERY GOOD + Scabbard - is black leather w a metal top mount & chape at its tip. Both are in excellent condition w no major defects & 90% blueing present. T is a narrow brass weld seam on the right edge of the chape but it doesn't stick out. The chape & top mount are secured to the leather body w machine staples. AGAIN, NO RUST!!! The leather body of the scabbard is in excellent condition w vertical design lines running down the outside edges. The back side is heavily stitched down the middle w all stitching perfectly intact.
