MID-20th C. MODERN DESIGN (SCANDINAVIAN) JENS RISOM STUDIO CANEBACK/UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIR This five (5) day auction is for a fabulous Jens Risom armchair of Danish Modern design, made in his Design Studio by the master himself. Risom was trained in his native Copenhagen, Denmark, working for the Kaare Klint and Ernst Kuhn's concerns. At 23 years of age, he emigrated to America (1939) w he begin a relationship with Hans Knoll, working as the premier designer for Knoll's furniture lines. In 1946 he opened his own studio, Jens Risom Design. This sleek, angular armchair is one of his lines. The armchair's teakwood frame is solid, sturdy, and undamaged. The woodgrain surface has the original beautifully- grained finish. The outstanding design of the well-crafted chair and it's ergonomic comfort make it a great example of Risom's innovative way of respecting tradition in modern design by combining the old and new in unique ways. The woven caneback is in perfect condition. The upholstery is original and needs to be redone/repaired. The leading, front edge of the padded seat is frayed in a couple of places. An inexpensive, easy project for the DIY'er or professional upholsterer. Being sold as is. Dimesnsions: 33" tall x 21" x 24" Weight- 30 lbs.
