You are bidding on a brand new, uninked, Danitrio Prototype "Koi no Takinobori" or "Carp Swims Against the Fall" Maki-e Fountain Pen With 18kt Stiff Medium Nib . The maki-e theme is very traditional, yet the pen is done with more abstract approach. The pen is made by master maki-e artist, Mr. Masanori Omote and signed by him with his red seal as seen. The pen is a cartridge/converter filler. The pen is new and is complete with box, paper, and converter. The pen is made with traditional maki-e techniques by Japanese maki-e artist and is done by hand. The pen is ebonite based. The base urushi is of rich glossy black color and heavy dose of pure gold were used for the maki-e design. The pen has been burnished many times so the maki-e is very durable for daily use, not like cheap screened maki-e which could rubbed off. The approach of this maki-e is much more abstract than traditional. In 2006, I had the good fortune of leading a group of maki-e pen lovers to Japan. On our trip, we were able to visit a few maki-e artists. We all have the good fortune of meeting Mr. Masanori Omote and his maki-e school in Ishikawa Prefecture. On one of the picture on right, you can see Mr. Omote during an instruction session. Memorable trip indeed! This unique pen is offered with LOW STARTING and NO RESERVE . Time to add this prototype maki-e pen to your collection. PLEASE NOTE : This is a prototype pen, so only very few numbers were made. The pen measures 5.75" closed; 5.25" from tip of the nib to end of barrel. The size is comparable to Montblanc 149, not a small pen.
