Daughters of the American Revolution “Real Daughters” Silver Spoon From 1895 This spoon is in excellence condition. Length is 5 3/4 inches. 1 of 757 spoons first presented in 1895. The spoon was given to the “Real Daughters”. Those whose father had fought in the Revolution. This Spoon was presented to: Minerva Blake Bovay. Born 1829 Ontario, Canada. Died 08-09-1909. Rodney, Michigan Daughter of Frances Blake (1758-1829) and Susan Wanamaker She was a member of the Big Rapids MI Chapter of the DAR On inside the cover of box: The D. A R. Souvenir Spoon The handle represents a distaff with the flax; the latter is tied at the top with a ribbon, upon which appears the motto of the Society - Home and Country. The flax is separated lower, show- ing in a vignette a Dame of the Revolutionary period, at her spinning wheel, while above her is a galaxy of stars representing the thirteen original States. The flax is brought down into the heart shaped bowl where the free ends gracefully from the initials D. A. R. The reverse shows the modeled flax with an ornamental shield supporting an eagle bearing the olive branch of peace. Design patented by the Official Jewelers of the D. A. R. Society. J. E.
