A poorly educated but noble man, Battlin' Jack Murdock encouraged his sone to achieve great things with his mind, rather than his fists. Idolizing his father, Matt took the advice to heart. As a result, his fellow students mockingly dubbed the introverted bookworm " Daredevil ." Humiliated, Matt began training without his father's knowledge so he could stand up to the bullies in school. As raised by his father, Matt was selflessly noble. This was never more apparent than when he pushed an elderly man out of the path of a runaway truck.
