DAREDEVIL volumes 3 & 4 & 5; all brand new, still shrink wrapped oversize hardcovers. Frank Miller has met his match. The Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev run on DAREDEVIL is easily one of the greatest creative tenures in Marvel history, even rivalling the great Frank Miller stint of old. Miller redefined Matt Murdock's world, but Bendis pushed it to new heights without retreading old territory. Bendis strips Matt Murdock of his secret identity, outing him to the world, then he continues to push the character. The key to all of this is that Bendis never once betrays characters for the sake of having a surprise or twist -- everything fits logically. By the time we reach Volume 3 and Matt Murdock becomes the new Kingpin of Hell's Kitchen, you understand why he chose that path. Most writers would just toss that twist at readers, but Bendis carefully guides us to that point. He wants us to understand why a hero like Daredevil would choose to take control in that manner. Bendis' greatest strength is his ability to provide characters with emotions, voice and dialogue that are incredibly clear and resonant. His characters come to life on the page (also due in no small part to Alex Maleev's immaculate artwork) and seem just as convincing and believable as someone standing next to you.
