Up for auction today is a lovely dated 1914 Victorian Crazy Quilt. The quilt measures approx. 78" x 59" (that includes the red crocheted trim which is approx. 1 1/4" wide). This is a very eye-catching, beautiful quilt! It has some great fancy decorative stitching with silk floss embroidery around all of the blocks, which is alternating in various patterns throughout. Some of the stitch patterns include Single and Double Feather, Herring Bone, Turkey Track, and Point Lace Stitch. It is dated 1914, and has 2 sets of initials and the town "Sapulpa, Okla" or Oklahoma sewn into it as well. This quilt was used and stored for many years, and shows the typical use and storage wear of a quilt of this vintage. There are a few spots where the trim is coming loose, and there is a spot where a stitch or 2 has come loose. This crazy quilt is mostly velvet, and shows the typical wear issues of vintage velvet - there are some spots where the nap of velvet pieces has worn off or worn down, there are a few "rot" spots where the cloth shows small splits. This is all pretty typical of these vintage quilts from use and storage. The colors of this quilt are still nice and crisp in most spots. Even the pink colored material used as backing is still pretty good, with little age discoloration or soiling. This is a nice quilt for its age, and would display well in your collection or decorating project! I think my pictures speak well of the condition - check them out and email any questions. Thanks for looking!
