Dauchau concentration camp letter from Polish prisoner of war written in broken German on camp stationary, Sept. 3, 1944, Letter from Dachau written on Sept. 3, 1944: Written by a Polish prisoner ( Gerhard Kolloch) number 49259 who was born on Aug. 17, 1919. The letter is to his parents, his sister and her husband. “I’m picking up the pen to write and hope it makes you happy to receive this letter. Thank you for your last letter and package with bread, sugar, cake, ‘Lebertran’ (a liquid vitamin, I think) and sausage. Don’t send any more fresh bread. It needs to be a little stale or it goes bad. The bread and cake in the last package was spoiled and it was a shame to waste it. I am healthy and happy and we will see each other again soon. Today it is five years since Rysiek saw the white flag on the nitrogen (this sentence doesn’t make any sense to me). These days are different. He is happy that he has a good job, he’s healthy and is protected. He won’t forget that. How long will Hans be on vacation? Can you send me his fieldnumber? How is Csesiek? And how is our bird handler? Is he still as friendly toward Rysiek as he used to be? Everything changes and I hope that our belief in our God will restore a peaceful life to us. May God be with you until we see each other again.” Gerhard Last page: “I gave my last letter to Alois, but he is mad and claims he hasn’t received any packages. But that’s not true because I know he has received some packages. I greet you heartily and Kisses Gerhard Greetings to Mrs. Scheppe, relatives, government workers, and comrades”
