This auction is for an original DAVENPORT TABLE made by the KNOXVILLE TABLE AND CHAIR CO. of KNOXVILLE, TENN. The company was started in 1901 and the depression forced it to close in 1935. The table stands 30" tall, is 66" long, and 22" wide. This is a beautifully carved table with bulbous, baluster legs supporting the long, narrow top. The top has a raised-panel edge above cameo carvings. The legs are turned with highly detailed, acanthus leaf carvings. Even the stretcher has an egg-and-dart design carved into each side. Each leg has three gently curved feet. This table came from a convent outside Pittsburgh, PA. founded in 1868. T is a flaking label fixed to the underside of the top saying - KNOXVILLE TABLES, TABLE AND CHAIR CO. KNOXVILLE, TENN. This table is in remarkably good condition for its age with the usual knicks and dings around the table top edge. T is a scratch and a old nick repair on the top and a small chip on one of the leg turnings above the huge carving noticable only under close inspection. I've tried to detail as much as possible in the photos. The table weighs 92 pounds and will be able to use the inexpensive Greyhound Package Express shipping if it can be packed to not exceed the 100 pound restriction. Feel free to email any questions.
