With Epileptic (L'ascension du Haut-Mal), David B has created one of the greatest graphic novels, together with Art Spiegelman's Maus, Chris Ware's Jimmy Corrigan and Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis. Of these however, Epileptic stands out as displaying the most daring graphics, w battles, monsters and symbols abound. This particular splash page is the original art for a portfolio published in France in 2000, when David B was working on Epileptic. Entitled "three trolls" and signed in the lower right, it features a fantastic battle, in which improbable two-headed monsters fight against a single archer, who somehow succeeds in throwing hundreds of arrows at them. Clearly an image nobody but David B could ever have imagined. The details in this pen and ink piece are simply amazing, and the condition of the art is perfect, with no yellowing, paste-up or corrections. This is a unique opportunity to own great and typical art from one of today's most important comic artists. David B has won numerous awards, included Best story award and Higher art school award in the Angouleme French Comic festival in 2000, and an Outstanding artist Ignatz award and a New York Magazine Culture award in 2005. He was also called the European cartoonist of the year by The Comics Journal in 1998. Original art by this artist is extremely rare, as David B seldom sells and contemporary art museums are avid buyers. This particular piece was originally donated by the artist for a charity auction.
