Third base and shortstop were his primary positions. He batted and threw right-handed. The California Angels selected Chalk in the first round of the 1972 amateur draft. Playing for the Angels, he was selected to two consecutive American League All-Star teams. He also played for the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals before leaving baseball after the 1981 season. He was selected as a member of the 1974 American League All-Star Team.John Robert Gamble (born 1948) is a former professional baseball shortstop. He played in 13 games in two seasons for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball. He was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1966 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and acquired by the Tigers in the 1970 Rule V Draft.Peter Mackanin, Jr. (pronounced /ˈmɑːkænɪn/) (born August 1, 1951) is an American former professional baseball player, coach, scout and current team manager. He played in Major League Baseball as a second baseman from 1973 to 1981 and, served as the acting manager of the Cincinnati Reds, having replaced Jerry Narron in 2007 before being replaced at season's end by Dusty Baker. Mackanin spent 2013 as a scout for the New York Yankees, and was the Philadelphia Phillies' bench coach from 2009 to 2012. Following a year off from coaching, he served as Phillies third base coach in 2014 and became interim manager in 2015 after the resignation of Ryne Sandberg.
